Three Girls and a Trip to the Spa...

Ahhhh! An empty Saturday and what to do?
We packed up and went to the spa! Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa that is.

We arrived at the Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa at about 12 noon, checked in, changed into our bathing suits, spa robes & slippers and headed down to the pool for a bite to eat before our day of pampering began. The sky was blue, the sun warm, and a nice breeze floated through the beautiful spa grounds as we nibbled on salads, turkey clubs, lemon water, and yes, wine. The time came for us to slip inside for our spa treatments. Before starting your treatments plan on enjoying their signature Bathing Ritual which is a self-guided experience. This co-ed Bathing Ritual is beneficial on its own or in combination with any of the fabulous spa treatments and is included with spa access. And yes boys, bathing suits are required!

The Bathing Ritual Experience starts with:
Exfoliating Shower
Warm Bath - a 96-98 degree warm mineral bath.
Hot Bath - Relax in the 102 degree hot mineral bath with jets.
Re-hydrating Drink - Enjoy a tall glass of water, which is vital for re-hydration.
Cool Shower - Cool your body with a brief shower.
Herbal Steam - Rest in the herbal steam room.
Sauna - Enjoy a few moments in the dry heat of the sauna.
Re-hydrating Drink - Enjoy a tall glass of water, which is vital for re-hydration.
Cool Shower - Cool your body with a brief shower.
Rest - Recline in the serenity of the relaxation lounge as your body renews and restores.

I learned that the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is proud to be one of the only luxury spa resorts in the country with their own source of thermal mineral water, which flows from 1,100 feet directly beneath the Inn at 135 degrees. Wow!
The Spa pays homage to ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilizations, who believed in the axiom, 'Sanitas Per Aquas', or healing through water.

I headed in for my Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa Massage- An eclectic full-body therapeutic massage customized to my individual needs, which increases circulation, eliminates toxins and reduces stress.
One of my spa companions tried the Grape Seed Body Polish
which is A gentle exfoliation and moisturizing body scrub with high levels of natural antioxidants. Local products fill the senses with the musky aroma of the wine country. And boy was her skin soft and smooth! That is what I will do next time!

My other spa companion tried the Interactive Make-Up Application. She looked beautiful! She also tried the Shampoo and Blow Dry -Aromatic hair care products are used to cleanse your hair and scalp, followed by a professional blow dry and styling.

Two of us did the Signature Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa Pedicure - Their Classic FSMI Pedicure with the addition of skin rejuvenating exfoliating scrub and moisturizing warm paraffin wax dip.
And one of us did the Balancing Reflexology Pedicure-Professional grooming of the feet, nails and cuticles with a fragrant footbath and luxurious pressure point reflexology foot massage. (Polish available upon request.)

Next time we want to try the Watsu!
This is a pool where you can relax with a nurturing 'floating' massage in their beautiful, 'al fresco' Watsu pool, filled with our unique thermal mineral water and perfectly maintained at 98 degrees. Supported by the arms of your skilled massage therapist, experience flowing movements, stretching and shiatsu. You will feel rested and relaxed with a restored sense of harmony and creativity.

We ended our day with dinner at Della Santina’s just off the Sonoma Square. At Della Santina's you will find homemade pastas, rotisserie meats, fresh fish, and many daily specialties all using fresh ingredients with simple preparation. Our meal was fabulous and I made a mental note to return with my husband.

Needless to say, we did not want to leave! But we quickly talked ourselves in to coming back again. After all, Sacramento is just a hop-skip-and-a-jump to Sonoma and it makes for a GREAT day getaway! Plus, we're worth it!
